SIGACTS: Seeking Justice CLT plans a protest for Charlotte, NC, at 1800 EST.

SITREP: A BLM-affiliated group, Seeking Justice CLT, will conduct a protest in downtown Charlotte, NC on 26 September, 2020 at 1800 EST. The protest will begin at the Black Lives Matter mural on South Tryon street in the heart of downtown Charlotte. In the wake of George Floyd’s death, Charlotte saw several weeks of violent protests, most originating in this area. Local sentiments towards law enforcement have turned negative in the wake of a 2016 shooting of an unarmed black man by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, and after the use of tear gas against protestors in June 2020.

RECOMM: Avoid downtown Charlotte, especially the areas along South Tryon Street between 4th and 6th. Romare Bearden Park is also known to be a hotspot of protest activity. Historical protests generally end up marching on the I-277 connector, so egress routes should plan to move west or southwest away from downtown.
